You will get to see and feel:
The history of viticulture in the Tejo includes proof of Phoenician and Roman presence in the region. By the end of the first half of the 13th century, some 30,000 pipes of wine had been exported to England.
You will visit 2 of the best-known wineries of the region and get to know and experience the full-bodied spicy reds from Ribatejo, mineral whites, and even dazzling sparkling wines. The existing vineyards are predominantly out of Portuguese varieties such as the white ” Fernão Pires”. The red wines are produced basically out of “Trincadeira”, “Castelão”, “Touriga Nacional”; and more recently Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Alicante Bouschet, and Syrah. Some estates have buildings dating from the XVIII century. The wineries although maintaining traditional methods are fully adapted to the new vinification techniques, essential to respect and take out the best of the grape’s potential.
For your magnificent lunch, we will take you to a regional restaurant where you will be able to taste traditional Portuguese plates that can vary from savory salt cod and rich meats, to kale soup and lightly grilled octopus. In Portugal, you are sure to find the best, freshest version of whatever it is you crave.
Last but not least, we will drive through stunning marshlands until you arrive at The Tagus estuary; the largest wetland area in Portugal and is considered one of the ten most important in Europe, mainly thanks to migratory waterbirds.
Here occur regularly around 100.000 wintering birds, exceeding the value of 120.000 birds during periods of active migration.
The estuary holding 54% of Portugal’s total wintering waders (sandpipers, plovers, and avocets), 30% of its wintering waterfowl (ducks and geese), and 4% of its wintering Ardeidae (herons).
Explore the different trails and enjoy the wildlife in lakes, using the hides and the viewpoints. Our guide will assist you and make this day one of a kind…
