You will get to see and feel:
Alentejo is a supremely romantic wine region in southern Portugal where you will find soft rolling hills covered in vineyards, cork forests, whitewashed villages, and Moorish castles. The Alentejo is wonderfully unspoiled and some of Portugal’s most famous wines are made in the Alentejo; that´s perhaps why was awarded in 2014 with the title of the best wine region in the world, by USA Today. From Lisbon, you will travel south/east towards the beautiful Vidigueira region and visit 2 wineries. You will get to know full-bodied reds with flavors to red fruits and wild berries and smoothly acidic elegant whites with mineral notes, made out of native grapes. On Alentejo, the return to traditional ways in wine is not limited to grape varieties. Talhas, the traditional Alentejo version of the wine amphora, have made a comeback.
Lunch on a typical Vidigueira Restaurant where you will have the chance of tasting the Historical wines from this region, fermented in clay amphorae.
Wine and olive oil, the latter believed to have originated in the Middle East or Asia Minor, reached Portugal between the seventh and third century BC as part of the vigorous trade between Mediterranean nations of the time.
The olive tree (Olea europaea L) arrived and adapted perfectly to most of the Portuguese territory, in particular the Alentejo.
Olive oil is a product with a high nutritional and dietetic value, an integral part of the most demanding Alentejo gastronomy, and a raw material for the pharmaceutical and beauty industries.
You are going to visit 1 producer of olive oil know his manufacturing methods and learn about the differences in taste and how to pair it with food.
Talhas Wine, indigenous grape varieties, varied terroirs, simple and delicious cuisine, good olive oil, all set in a landscape of vines and cork oaks, and olive trees are an open invitation for you to come and try the pure Alentejo.
