Braga and Guimarães: The Cradle Cities of Portugal

On this Braga and Guimarães tour, we invite you to explore the Northern Portugal, considered the cradle of the country. Guimarães is the birthplace of the portuguese kingdom and Braga – with more than 2,500 years of history – was once the capital of the Roman province of Galicia. Both are beautiful towns, with long traditions, history and monuments, deserving to be visited!

Start your Adventure

Day starts by setting off from Porto towards Guimarães. Here you will have time for a walk through this town historic center and visit the iconic Castle which is known for being the birthplace of the Portuguese kingdom. Other mesmerizing places on your visit are the Palace of the Dukes, St. Michael’s Chapel, the baptism site of D. Afonso Henriques, and Largo da Oliveira.

Lunch, is a very important part of the route and will take place in a typical restaurant of Minho gastronomy: succulent, rich in spices and with an endless list of dishes, from home-grown meat to local-caught fish, everything that is served on a Minho table has two guarantees: intense flavor accompanied by good Vinho Verde.

By the afternoon, Braga town, called Bracara Augusta by the Romans, waits for us! You will visit its historic center, the Cathedral and the most magnificent Sanctuary in Portugal: Bom Jesus do Monte. Last but not least, you will visit the Church of Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara’s Garden.
