Cradle of Portugal and Green Wine Experience

This tour is a fantastic experience into the Vinho Verde wine region, at the sub-region of Monção-Melgaço, near the border with Spain. This area is protected by a range of mountains, creating the perfect conditions for the best ripening of “Alvarinho” grapes. In terms of geographical area,this is the largest Portuguese demarcated region, and one of the largest in Europe.

The historical center, inside the Guimarães city walls, is associated with the birth and identity of Portugal. It was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site based on the originality and authenticity applied in its restoration. Here we will conduct a quick visit to the Guimarães Castle, the Palace of the Dukes, St. Michael’s Chapel, the baptism site of D. Afonso Henriques (first King of Portugal), and Largo da Oliveira.

After this, you will visit a winery pioneer in the creation of Alvarinho wine in Melgaço, and an international reference for the wines of this variety! This beautiful estat is perfectly integrated into the typical Minho landscape that surrounds it.

In this gastronomic experience, you will enjoy a light lunch of local products by small artisan producers, offering an authentic taste of Minho territory.

At last, you will do a very special tasting: starting with a visit to the Herbal Tea Fields, where you will learn more about Minho territory before Alvarinho and about infusions. Then you will visit the first continuous vineyard of Alvarinho in Melgaço, the old family garage, the cellar, and the Innovation Cellar.

You will then go up to the terrace, where, with a privileged view over River Minho’s valley, you can clearly understand what makes this territory unique, and we will then start the tasting.
