Vineyards, Bulls and Horses

The great pastures, abounding in Ribatejo, have a very special feature: horses and bulls breeding. This activity is deeply connected to the rural life and marks part of local culture and landscape, which fertile soils also produce great wines, olive oil, cork and vegetables. During this Ribatejo wine tour, you will get the chance to feel the countryside way of life!

The floodplains from Ribatejo, known as Lezirias, are home for Lusitano horse and the wild bull breeding. Together with the knights they are the main stars of the bullfight in Portugal. This is also where our Campinos protect and drive the cattle for greener pastures.

We will visit two beautiful wineries in Tejo Wine Region, a tribute to the river that has shapped the landscape and influenced such distintive terroir, ideal to cultivate Portugal’s native grapes.

On this two wineries you will taste native red grapes including the Touriga Nacional, one of the most famous Portuguese variety, as well as Trincadeira and Castelão. The aromatic Fernão Pires and the citric Arinto produce some of the region’s most refreshing white wines.

For lunch, we will stop by at a traditional restaurant where you’ll the chance to try a famous portuguese soup called ‘Sopa da Pedra’.
