Between the Tagus River and the Atlantic Ocean, three defensive lines with 152 fortifications were secretly built, to protect Lisbon from the Napoleonic Invasions. Travel back in time through these six routes, crossing mountains and valleys and discover a unique patrimony of Portugal, in the company of the wines of the Atlantic coast.

Your day starts by visiting the Lines of Torres Vedras, where you will learn more about this defensive fortifications located on the peninsula of Lisbon. In the context of the Peninsular War (1807-1814) against Napoleon, they were designed with the purpose of preventing the Napoleonic army from reaching Lisbon, the capital of Portuguese Kingdom. In the Third French Invasion, the Lines of Torres Vedras prevented André Masséna’s army to reach Lisbon and eventually lead to the French withdrawal from Portugal.

Lunch on a typical restaurant of the Region and enjoy the Portuguese cuisine; a mixture of Mediterranean traditions and Atlantic products.

Portugal is a small country but has rich and diverse wines due the array of terroirs and native grapes varieties, making this an amazing country for wine lovers, since you won’t find these particular wines in other parts of the world.

We will visit one of the beaten path wineries in the region. You will get to know and experience the elegant wines Lisbon Wine Region:  full bodied reds and salty white wines with great mineral notes, that will invite you to taste the wonderful coastline specialties!
